This recipe goes by many names: Bedtime spray, monster spray, chill out spray, or even go-the-heck-to-bed spray — all depending on its present intended use and your mood. 😉
Here’s the basic lowdown of what this spray is and how it’s best used: Whatever you want to call it, this concoction is designed to promote relaxation and a generally peaceful, easy feeling. (You just started singing the song, didn’t you?) This is especially great to use at bedtime to help support a restful night’s sleep.*
Because these essential oils are mild (and diluted), it’s a good option for children or sensitive adults. It can be sprayed directly on the skin — avoiding eyes of course — or spayed over pillows and bedding. If a child is afraid of monsters in their closet or under their bed, it can also be sprayed to “repel” the beasties. (Disclaimer: This spray will not actually repel monsters. *winkwink*)
This isn’t just for bedtime, though. Its a perfect blend for adults and children alike, any time of the day. It can even be used to for your four-legged canine friends during thunderstorms, fireworks, or new situations.
It’s wonderful for any time you need a little bit of. . .
- calming
- grounding
- relaxation
- peace
- stress reduction*
- ease of tension*
- balance
I also like to spray my mattress itself with this when I change sheets. If your mattress needs a deep cleaning, sprinkle it with baking soda first, let it sit for several minutes, vacuum it off, and then spritz to freshen it up.
Here’s the Recipe:
Tools
glass 2-ounce spray bottle (where to buy)
eyedropper (not necessary, but helpful to extract vetiver oil)
Ingredients
1 tblspn witch hazel (where to buy)
15 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops vetiver essential oil
10 drops frankincense essential oil
5 drops cedarwood essential oil
water to fill the spray bottle (distilled is best)
Instructions
Place all ingredients in a glass spray bottle, starting with witch hazel, then oils, then water, being sure to leave head space for the spray attachment. Shake well before each use and spray the air, bedding, bottoms of feet, or wrists as needed.
Like most essential oil recipes, the amounts can be increased or decreased to personal preference and oils can be swapped or left out completely. However I think you’ll like this blend as-is.
